Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes
A new legal framework: Law No. 144/2015 of 8 September, which transposes Directive 2013/11/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2013 on alternative dispute resolution for consumer disputes. It establishes the legal framework for out‑of‑court mechanisms for resolving consumer disputes and creates, in Portugal, the Consumer Arbitration Network.
All suppliers of goods and service providers must inform consumers about the available ADR entities, those they have voluntarily joined, or those to which they are bound by law (for example, mandatory arbitration for essential public services such as electricity, gas, water and waste, electronic communications, and postal services).
In the event of a dispute, the consumer may resort to an Alternative Dispute Resolution entity:
